COOKIE INFORMATION · UPDATED 18 AUGUST 2026
Cookie Policy.
This Cookie Policy explains, by name, category, and lifespan, every cookie and similar browser technology used on ralome.info. It should be read together with the Privacy Policy, which describes how any resulting information is used more broadly, and it applies to every visitor regardless of the device or browser used to reach the site.
1. Purpose and scope of this policy
Cookies are small text files, or equivalent browser storage entries, placed on a reader's device to remember settings or to support the technical operation of a website. This document lists the specific cookies used by Ralome Journal, explains what each one does, and states how long each one is kept before it expires automatically. It applies to the homepage, every article page, the About, Contact, and Methodology pages, and the three legal pages, since the same cookie banner and underlying technology operate consistently across the whole site. It does not describe cookies that may be set by a third-party website reached through an outbound link, since we do not control those separate destinations.
The publication takes a restrained approach to cookies. We do not use cookies to build cross-site advertising profiles, we do not sell cookie-derived data to third parties, and a reader can browse every core editorial article without accepting any optional cookie category. This restraint reflects both a genuine editorial preference for a quiet reading experience and a practical recognition that a small publication has limited use for extensive behavioural tracking.
2. What a cookie is, in practical terms
Technically, a cookie is a short piece of text that a website asks a browser to store, and to send back to the same website on a later visit. Cookies cannot, by themselves, read files from a reader's device, install software, or access information stored by unrelated websites. Some cookies are deleted automatically when a browser session ends, while others persist for a defined number of days or months, as described for each specific cookie below. Modern browsers also support similar storage mechanisms, such as local storage, which this site may use in a functionally equivalent way to remember a cookie banner choice.
3. Categories of cookies used on this site
We group the cookies used on ralome.info into three categories: strictly necessary cookies required for basic navigation, preference cookies that remember a reader's choices, and optional analytics cookies that help us understand aggregate readership. Each category is described with its specific cookie name and lifespan in the sections that follow, and each optional category can be individually accepted, partially accepted, or declined through the cookie banner shown on first visit.
4. Strictly necessary and session cookies
A cookie named ralome_session supports temporary navigation, such as remembering that the mobile menu was opened, and is deleted automatically when the browser session ends. This cookie does not contain a name, email address, or any directly identifying information, and it cannot be used on its own to recognise a specific individual across separate visits. Because this cookie is necessary for basic page functionality, it is set regardless of the choice made in the cookie banner, consistent with standard practice for strictly necessary cookies under applicable guidance. Blocking this cookie through browser settings may cause minor interface features, such as the mobile navigation menu, to behave inconsistently.
5. Preference cookies
A cookie named ralome_cookie_pref stores the choice a reader makes in the cookie banner, so that the banner does not reappear on every subsequent page load. This cookie is retained for up to one hundred eighty days from the date it is set or last updated, after which it expires and the banner will be shown again on the next visit. The preference cookie stores only the selected category or categories, such as "necessary only" or "necessary and analytics", and does not store browsing history or any other personal detail. Clearing browser cookies, or visiting from a new device, resets this preference and the banner will appear again.
6. Analytics cookies
If a reader accepts the optional analytics category, a cookie named ralome_analytics_id may be set, containing a randomly generated identifier rather than a name or email address, and is retained for up to thirteen months from the date it is last updated. Analytics data derived from this identifier is reviewed only in aggregate, to understand which articles are read most often, approximate regional interest across Indonesia, and general page-load performance. We do not combine analytics data with contact-form submissions, and analytics reports available to editorial staff do not identify an individual reader. Declining this category has no effect on access to any article or page on the site.
7. Third-party cookies
This site loads typography through Google Fonts and, where analytics are accepted, an analytics service provider; both may involve a request to a third-party domain as a technical step in delivering that resource. Where such a request occurs, the corresponding third party may set its own cookie subject to its own retention practice, over which Ralome Journal does not have direct control. We do not knowingly embed third-party advertising cookies, social-media tracking pixels, or cross-site retargeting tags on this website, and if that changes in the future, this policy will be updated to name the new party and describe its cookie before the change takes effect.
8. Legal basis and consent
Strictly necessary cookies are set on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing basic website functionality that a reader would reasonably expect when loading the page. Preference and analytics cookies are set only on the basis of consent, obtained through the cookie banner shown on first visit, and that consent can be withdrawn at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link available in the footer of every page. No optional cookie is set before a reader has made an active choice in the banner.
9. How to manage cookie preferences
A reader can change their cookie choice at any time by selecting the "Cookie Settings" link in the site footer, which reopens the banner and allows a fresh selection between accepting all optional categories, accepting a partial selection, or limiting the site to strictly necessary cookies only. Independently of our banner, most browsers allow a reader to view, delete, or block cookies through their own settings menu, and browser-level blocking will typically override any choice made in our banner. Because blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect basic site functionality, we recommend using the in-page cookie banner for day-to-day preference changes rather than blanket browser-level blocking where possible.
10. Retention periods summarised
In summary, the session cookie is deleted at the end of the browser session, the preference cookie is retained for up to one hundred eighty days, and the analytics cookie, if accepted, is retained for up to thirteen months from the date it is last updated. No cookie described in this policy is retained indefinitely, and each one expires automatically according to the periods stated above without requiring manual deletion, although a reader remains free to delete any of them earlier through browser settings.
11. International transfers connected with cookie data
Where an analytics identifier is processed by a service provider located outside Indonesia, the resulting aggregate data may be processed on servers in other jurisdictions, consistent with the international transfer arrangements described in the Privacy Policy. We select processors that apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including encryption in transit, for any data associated with these cookie identifiers.
12. Your rights and contact
A reader has the right to decline optional cookies without any effect on their ability to read articles on this site, to withdraw previously given cookie consent at any time, and to ask what specific cookie-derived information, if any, is associated with their device. Questions about this Cookie Policy can be sent to [email protected], by telephone to +62 21 2184 7208, or by post to Jalan Wolter Monginsidi No. 11, 12180 Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta, Indonesia. We aim to acknowledge a cookie-related query within ten business days and to provide a full response within thirty calendar days.
13. Changes to this policy
We review the cookies used on this site periodically, particularly whenever a new page feature or third-party resource is added, and we update this policy to reflect any change in the cookies actually set. Where a change would introduce a new category of optional cookie, we will present the updated banner again so that a returning reader can make a fresh, informed choice rather than relying on a consent given before the change.
